Do You Have and HSA or FSA?
You can probably use your health savings account (HSA) or flexible spending account (FSA) to purchase contact lenses. You may even have a Visa, MasterCard or other type of debit card you can use to purchase your contact lenses.
You or your employer may have set up an HSA savings account so you could pay for health expenses with pre-tax dollars. In addition to contact lenses, this account may fund pharmaceutical expenses, doctor office visits, hospital bills, and outpatient services.
Employers often set up FSA funds, which must be used within a single calendar year, to pay health related expense with pre-tax dollars.
If you do not currently participate in an HSA or FSA, talk to your employer about enrolling on one. If you are self-employed or your employer does not offer and HSA or FSA, talk to a financial advisor, such as an insurance agent. He or she may be able to help you start a self-funded account to help pay for contacts lenses and other health related expenses.
