ULTRA Is Another Superb Multifocal Contact Lens
ULTRA Multifocal Contacts Lenses Benefits
Ultra Multifocal contacts lens are improving by leaps and bounds. As an eye doctor, I feel a lot of confidence when I recommend some of the newer ultra multifocal brands to my patients. After giving the the 1 Day ACUVUE Moist Multifocals such a rave review a few months ago, I’ve also been impressed with one of its competitors, ULTRA Contact Lenses for Presbyopia. Bausch+Lomb just released them this year.
Why am I impressed with the new ULTRA lenses? It’s simple. My patients are happy, and their eyes are healthy. I’m thrilled to finally experience high satisfaction rates with virtually all of my ultra multifocal contacts lens patients. People in their 40s, who would normally be starting to use reading glasses due to natural changes in vision, don’t have to with these lenses. They can read the small print. They can see well enough to fix a small device, tie a knot in a fishing line, or thread a needle.
But multifocal contact lenses are not just “bifocal” contact lenses. They actually help you see better near and far—as well as in between. Computer work and face-to-face conversations tend to occur in that “in between” zone. Bausch + Lomb calls their engineering for multifocal lenses the “3-Zone Progressive Design.”
Bausch + Lomb ULTRA contact lenses also use their MoistureSeal technology. I like contact lenses made with MoistureSeal because they maintain 95% of their moisture. People can wear them comfortably all day, and they let more oxygen through than most lenses on the market.
Near Eye, Far Eye
Even with multifocal lenses, we still employ the strategy of assigning the stronger eye to be the dominant distance vision eye. That allows the non-dominant eye to have an even better prescription for near vision. The ultra multifocal lenses just helps balance everything else out, especially when both eyes work together to achieve ideal medium distance vision. (See my posting One Contact Lens for Near, One for Far for more information on this treatment.)
I enjoy the challenge of fitting patients to ultra multifocal contacts. I think many eye doctors derive a lot of satisfaction from this test of their skills. It’s harder than prescribing monovision lenses, and it takes more time. If your doctor is hesitant to fit you with multifocal lenses, it may be an indication that he or she lacks the initiative or confidence to help you find an ideal prescription. If you don’t get a satisfactory explanation from a doctor, who appears to be skirting the task of finding the ideal multifocal contact lens prescription, consider getting a second opinion. Call other reputable eye doctors in your area and ask to speak with them. Simply explain that you’re presbyopic (over 40 years old and having a hard time seeing up close). Then ask them how they feel about ultra multifocal contacts lens. If they express enthusiasm, consider making an appointment. If they hesitate, it may be best to cross them off your list.
So after a few months of prescribing the new ULTRA Multifocal Contact Lenses for Presbyopia, I have enough experience to brag about them and express some enthusiasm. I love it when contact lens manufacturers create brilliant innovation. Especially when it gives my patients brilliant vision.
